Wal-Mart New Fashion Line with Miley Cyrus

The star of the big hit Disney Chanel series “Hannah Montana” will join with Max Azria, the designer of BCBGMAXAZRIA for Wal-Mart fashion lines.

The top retailer unveiled its plans on Wednesday to launch a fashion line of budget-friendly items such as graphic tees, tops, pants, shoes and accessories, all under $20.

According to Wal-Mart, the line will reverberate the rock-n-roll roots of the teenage pop star, Miley Cyrus, who she scored with her Hannah Montana albums and enjoyed the box office hit with her “Hannah Montana: The Movie.”

Aside from being famous as a singer, actress and an author, Miley became the latest fashion designer. “I love creating looks that are all about personal expression and individuality,” she said in a statement.

This fashion line is expected to hit Wal-Mart stores this coming August, just in time for back-to-school shopping begins. The Wal-Mart will also sponsoring the young pop start for her North America concert tour that will start in September.

Burberry Day in New York City

Burberry is pleased to announce that last May 28, 2009 has been declared Burberry Day in New York City.

The proclamation, by New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg, is in honour of the continued investment and commitment Burberry makes to New York and the US and coincides with the official lighting of the Burberry logo on the rooftop of the new Burberry Americas headquarters at 444 Madison Avenue.

The site at 444 Madison Avenue is one of only six grand fathered signage locations in New York.

The fifty foot long Burberry logos will be lit across the iconic Manhattan skyline for the first time this Thursday evening, during an event to celebrate the occasion being hosted by Burberry Chief Executive Angela Ahrendts and Burberry Creative Director Christopher Bailey for over 300 guests.

The new 68,000 square foot Burberry Americas headquarters at 444 Madison Avenue opened in April 2009 and mirror the 160,000 square foot Burberry global headquarters in London.

Fashion News: Chanel and the “Dying Swan”

The Chanel creative director, Karl Lagerfeld has stepped out to design an exclusive costume of priciple ballerina for the ‘The Dying Swan’ as part of the English National Ballet’s centenary performance, the ‘Ballets Russes’ season at Sadler’s Wells theatre in London.

The Serge Diaghilev’s ballet marks the first performance at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

Elena Glurdjidze, the English National Ballet’s Senior Principal dancer will wear the designed costume for the the auspicious role of ‘The Dying Swan’ performance. She explains, “We always say that the look is 50% of how you are going to dance, so it is very important to have a beautiful costume”.

More than 100 hours and a bunch of feathers are being used for the creation of the said costume, which will be debuted at Sadlers Wells on 16 June 2009. Other possiblities to witness the ballet/costume are a one-off performance at St Pauls Cathedral on 30 June as part of the City of London Festival and in September at the Gran Teatro del Liceu, Barcelona. www.chanel.com

Karl Lagerfeld has always had a personal interest in ballet, he said: “The Ballet Russes were an influence for me. As a child I was already impressed by old images of Anna Pavlova dancing the ballet.”
