The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) honored the US First Lady, Michelle Obama during the awards night in New York last June 15. She praised the industry in her pre-taped video message “Fashion is an American art form with ingenuity and craftsmanship that contribute so much to our economy and culture.”
She is the “meteoric rise as a fashion icon”, the CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg paid tribute to the wife of President Barack Obama. According to her, she had a unique look that balances the duality of her lives as an adviser and mother to Sasha, eight and Malia, 10.
The Awards
Womenswear Designer of the Year Award
The pair beat off stiff competition from Narciso Rodriguez and Marc Jacobs to land the prize, with the latter – accompanied by partner Lorenzo Martone – also missing out to Proenza Scouler for Accessories Designer of the Year. However, he was honoured with the InternationalAward for his work at Louis Vuitton.

The Swedish fashion chain, H&M signed a deal with the red carpet shoes and handbags sensation- Jimmy Choo. This latest collaboration comes hot on the shoe department of H&M, a collection of Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, and Britain’s ‘Boho King’, Matthew Williamson.

Shoe shoppers will be able to get their hands the label’s version of the spike heels and ankle boots worn by famous Hollywood faces such as Cate Blanchett, Hilary Swank and Halle Berry starting on the second week of November at the bargain-priced between €40 and €200. The Jimmy Choo handbags for H&M will be in the same price bracket.
The fashion accessories will be provided by a one-off capsule collection of Jimmy Choo men and women’s wear as well as on shoes and handbags.
According to the founder and president of Jimmy Choo, Tamara Mellon “We are privileged to be among the fashion greats who have been affiliated with H&M so far, and to be designing a collection appealing to fashion-savvy, street-smart women, and to be including some great pieces for men, too“
“We adore Jimmy Choo’s shoes and bags,” “glamorous and sexy, and they add instant style to the simplest of outfits. I like the way we have worked with clothes to accessorise the shoes and bags rather than the other way around. This collaboration is particularly exciting because it’s our first shoe designer collection.” said Margareta van den Bosch, the creative advisor for H&M and the ‘brains’ behind the chain’s impressive roll-call of designer tie-ups, which includes Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Karl Lagerfeld and Roberto Cavalli, in addition to Comme and Williamson.
The Jimmy Choo shoes and handbags’ collection will be launched in almost 200 H&M stores worldwide on November 14th and will be readily available in the UK at the Oxford Circus, London W1 flagship and branches in major cities.

Milan Fashion Industry seen Falling again in 2009

Leave a Comment Milan, the business, fashion and design capital of Italy is seen falling again this year after its fashion turnover. The demand for designer fashion stuffs saps as the recession continues.
The National Chamber of Fashion in Italy forecast on Monday, the turnover was seen down 6.5 percent to 62.176 billion euros ($86.31 billion) in 2009 and there’a tendency to fall higher.
The chamber’s chairman, Mario Boselli told a news conference ahead of Milan’s menswear fashion week, which runs June 20-23, “This seems optimistic.”
“2009 had started “in the worst way” and a 3 percent fall in fashion turnover was expected for the second half of the year.
Last year, turnover for Italy’s fashion industry, known for names such as Giorgio Armani and Prada, fell 4 percent to 66.498 billion euros.
Luxury brands have not been spared by the global economic turmoil and the sector has been hit by restrained spending even among the super-rich.
Large players are seen better able to weather the storm and observers see smaller and family-run companies being the hardest hit.
Italy’s fashion industry earlier this year warned its members risked “falling to pieces” as they feel the strains of the economic crisis and called for government help.

Oh its D&G aka Dolce & Gabbana! I was really amazed when I saw this Miss Sicily Snakeskin brought about by Dolce & Gabbana handbags collection this season. My first impression when I looked at this stuff was that it didn’t look anything like Dolce & Gabbana stuff.
Other fashion labels got a compliment of a ruffly garbage handbags or been in various color of lame but this bag is totally different as what we see here.
The Dolce & Gabbana Miss Sicily Snakeskin Handbag is the exact opposite of a ruffly anything. Its lines are so rigid that shows that this bag was well-crafted. I’m pretty sure that it can withstand any incremental weather condition and can last for a long long time. It is indeed, TIMELESS!!!
Go ahead, try and think of something snakeskin. This was perfectly matched in any outfit you have, whether you dressed up with jeans or a white button-down. This is quite nice and to tell you, snakeskin is my favorite neutral material of all time.
They are textured with tons of tiny scales that really deserve some time spent with your great fashion carrier. Seeing this makes me really wish that Hermes would consider expanding their snakeskin offerings in the future.

Comments (1) My crazy notions towards fashion were put into rest after I saw these lovely Gucci handbags. Oh Gucci, my beloved Gucci has returned to its senses creating gorgeous, lust-worthy handbags. This array of handbags was seen during Fashion Week and now readily available for Spring/Summer 2009. They have still tassels but the fringe isn’t everywhere, and those awful, gigantic studs are gone.
Definitely, I love these handbags. The oversized stitching is fabulous that extends to the strap. The polished bamboo details on the fringe are also nice with classic touch. Embossed with gold hardware which is the best choice to uniform in a brown handbag
I think this is the best handbags that Gucci put out compare to the last year. Thank God its here! I have been patiently waiting for its arrival since I saw it in the Gucci Spring 2009 runway shows.
